Yeah, yeah. Here come the I told you so’s. WordPress is pretty cool, but there are some things missing that I sure hope I can find replacements. Once I get it all together, I’ll be able to ditch the DNN 2 / .Text site we’ve been running for the last two years.

Monkey invited us to play at Rock Steady Lounge last friday and it was really fun. Pacific Palms Grill is a great venue – nice big bar, you can get an appetizer plate and who knows what else from the grill (but it looks good), some pool tables, lots of parking, the place is clean, and the stage area, while it isn’t elevated except for a drummer’s riser, it’s big enough to stretch out and have a fun set.

Monkey played first and after a month on the road and throughout the set shared some funny stories from thir cross-country adventures. It’s been awhile since I’ve last seen them and with three horn players sounded full, and tight. It’s probably the best set I’ve heard from them since I first saw them open for Yeska’s cd release at Slims almost a decade ago. If you haven’t seen them play or haven’t in awhile, go. It’s worth it.
We got on and sweated a bunch, played loud and fast, and generally rocked it. Our rehearsal space neighbor happened to show up to see Monkey and FTB and was suprised to see us there too. Small world!
FTB got up and closed out the night and we all sweated some more as they kept the energy up right to the end. Did I mention it was 100+ degrees in Milpitas?
Sweatily, stinkily, and contentedly, we went into the night. A good time had by all.

Mike Chris and I were down in Fremont recording. It never fails to amaze me how quickly time passes when I’m recording. I do however know all too well how long time drags when you’re waiting to record (Sorry about that Mike and Chris).
Too wound up when I got home, so I played Gran Tourismo 4 for a couple of hours. I hate that game. Two hours of going around the same 3 tracks to get enough credits to buy a decent car – only to have to race the same tracks to get enough credits to upgrade the car so it’s actually fast enough to do anything with.
And now I’m looking at my blog, thinking I haven’t touched this thing in ages.
I really dug .Text when I set this site up because of it’s integration with DotNetNuke, but now, about two years later, it’s the bane of my aspirations of redesigning and upgrading the SOL site. If I upgrade to DNN 4, then the blogs break. Not to mention the fact that in order to upgrade .Text, I have to migrate to Community Server which has a horrible multi-upgrade process. Not to mention the fact that there is no tie-in with DNN for the latest version of CS. Not to mention the fact that I don’t want to have to think so hard for a personal site. CS and DNN don’t play nice like DNN and .Text. Bummer.
I’ve been working with DNN 3/4 for awhile and there are some excellent modules. They even have a pretty decent blogging module. That said, nothing on the ASP.Net front comes close to Community Server. Lots of functionality and a big user base. Dunno. I have a couple of sites using the blog project for DNN and if it appears stable enough, maybe I’ll write my own migration scripts.
The Munsters is on. Guess I better pack it in and go to bed.

Long, long, long, long day today. Hopefully I’ve prepped everything I can so that when I push buttons tomorrow, everything will work flawlessly. This is one job where it’s best not to be noticed – that means my shit is working.
I know I need to sleep. I’m stressed, tired, and know I need to get up early in the morning tomorr— today.
The History channel has switched to infomercials for the night. I’ll go to bed soon, so I can fall aleep holding a book to my face.
zzzzz.

At New York’s Kennedy airport today, an individual later discovered to be a public school teacher was arrested trying to board flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a setsquare, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez said he believes the man is a member of the notorious al-Gebra movement. He is being charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.
Al-Gebra is a fearsome cult,” Gonzalez said! . “They desire average solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like ‘x’ and ‘y’ and refer to themselves as ‘unknowns’, but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, ‘there are 3 sides to every triangle’.”
When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, “If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes”.

Wow, this is really cool.
Binaural Beats:
http://uazu.net/sbagen/
Essentially, this software allows you to create white noise and other repetitive sounds which are allow you to focus, relax, and stuff. They get into the science, but if you’re like me, you just download and install the program which puts folders with example files you can fool around with, play, edit, annoy.
Good times.

Apparently if you make a significant payment against your credit card two things will happen:
- the credit will not be applied to your balance
- you get automatically referred to the department of homeland security (no shit. this is f@#%ing scary)

In other news, the House passed the renewal of the patriot act which among other things “takes aim at the distribution and use of methamphetamine by limiting the supply of a key ingredient found in everyday cold and allergy medicines.” (Washington Post)
Take that terrorists. Let’s see you try to pay off our debt in the middle of hay fever season!
